The Pumpkinickels

The Pumpkinickels are graphic novel characters created to promote the acceptance of gender-variant children and break down the barriers surrounding the culture of masculinity.

Inspired by vintage theatre ephemera, I hand painted and digitized these posters to convey the era of this story.
I created illustrations and copy that directly suited each character's personality to interest a variety of perspectives and people.
These are three pages from The Pumpkinickels, my first manuscript created with the help of the Modern Institute of letters. I picked three pages to fully render as an example of the different sequential art techniques, writing and layout that this book would have.

When thinking of hypothetical merchandise, I decided to create a concept drawing for a Plushie Squash. I also described the materials that would be used in his construction. I wanted him to be soft and squishy with changeable jumpers.
